Stoczek in the Historical Fabric of the Technical University

“Thank you, that’s enough!”

The namesake of BME’s legendary cafeteria

The cafeteria is named after József Stoczek, a prominent 19th-century professor of the university — not only respected for his knowledge, but also beloved for his humanity, humour, and gentle irony.

There’s a famous anecdote: during an exam, an elderly student, “Uncle Fűzi”, couldn’t answer a question. He sighed and said, “I can even tell you on which page of my notes it is…” Stoczek replied simply,

“Thank you, that’s enough.”

He believed that “The core of a person’s mind isn’t like a magazine where everything has to fit … But you don’t need all of it! It's enough to know what is where.”
